Tout le monde connait Facebook, un réseau social sur Internet permettant à toute personne possédant un compte de créer son profil et d'y publier des informations, dont elle peut contrôler la visibilité par les autres personnes, possédant ou non un compte. L'usage de ce réseau s'étend du simple partage d'informations d'ordre privé (par le biais de photographies, liens, textes, etc) à la constitution de pages et de groupes visant à faire connaitre des institutions, des entreprises ou des causes variées. L'intégralité des informations publiées sur ces deux supports, à l'inverse du profil, peut être consultée par n'importe quel internaute sans qu'il soit nécessaire d'ouvrir un compte (à l'exception cependant des noms des membres qui sont occultés en partie dans ce cas).

Le nom du site s’inspire des albums photo (« trombinoscopes » ou « facebooks » en anglais) regroupant les photos prises de tous les élèves au cours de l'année scolaire et distribuées à la fin de celle-ci aux étudiants. Facebook est né à l'université Harvard : c'était à l'origine le réseau social fermé des étudiants de cette université, avant de devenir accessible aux autres universités américaines. La vérification de la provenance de l'utilisateur se faisait alors par une vérification de l'adresse électronique de l'étudiant. Le site est ouvert à tous depuis septembre 2006.

Personnellement, j’utilise Facebook depuis 2008. Au début réfractaire à m’inscrire, je suis vite devenu accro.  Cela m’a permis de connaitre des personnes sympathiques, comme Raphaël qui n’a pas hésité, dès qu’il a appris que j’avais un blog, à participer.

Everyone knows Facebook, a social network to the Internet to anyone with an account to create their profile and to publish information which it can control the visibility by others, whether or not an account. The use of this network extends from the simple sharing of private information (through photographs, links, text, etc.) to the creation of pages and groups to make known institutions, companies or various causes. The completeness of the information published on these two media, in contrast to the profile, can be accessed by any Internet user without having to open an account (with the exception however of the names of members who are partially obscured in this case).
The site name is inspired by the photo albums ("rogue's gallery" or "Facebook" in English) together photos taken of all students during the school year and distributed at the end of it to students. Facebook was born at Harvard University: it was originally closed social network of students of this university, before becoming available to other American universities. The verification of the user from doing so by checking the email address of the student. The site is open to all since September 2006.
Personally, I use Facebook since 2008. At first resistant to enroll, I quickly became hooked. This allowed me to know nice people, as Raphael did not hesitate when he heard that I had a blog to participate.
